Accessibility Statement.
A movement for everyone the system overlooked should not build a website that overlooks anyone. Here is where we stand and where we fall short.
The short version
Our commitment
We want every essay, meme, and member feature on this site to be usable by people with visual, motor, auditory, and cognitive disabilities, on any device — especially the budget Android phones most of our readers actually use. Accessibility is treated as an engineering requirement, not an afterthought: it is checked when features ship, not retrofitted when someone complains.
What is built in
- Semantic structure — proper landmarks, one logical heading hierarchy per page, and real buttons and links rather than clickable divs.
- Keyboard navigation — every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard, with visible focus states throughout.
- Screen-reader support — ARIA labels on icon-only controls, alt text on meaningful images, and decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.
- Contrast — the paper-and-ink palette is chosen to hold WCAG contrast ratios, and meaning is never carried by colour alone.
- Touch and mobile — minimum 44px touch targets, responsive layouts, and a mobile-first build for slow connections.
- Language — the interface is available in English, Hindi, and Marathi, with correct language tagging for assistive technology.
Known limitations
- Third-party embeds — YouTube players and the Turnstile anti-spam widget bring their own accessibility behaviour, which we cannot fully control.
- Community content — images or text posted by members may lack descriptions or clear structure. Report anything unusable and we will address it.
- Poster artwork — the vintage-poster images are text-heavy by design; each carries alt text describing its content, but the full visual texture is inherently graphic.
Feedback, help, and alternative formats
If you hit a barrier — a control you cannot reach, text you cannot read, a flow that traps you — email contact@thecockroachjantaparty.org.in with the page and the problem. We will acknowledge within 48 hours, fix what can be fixed, and in the meantime provide the same information in an accessible format on request.
Continuous review
Accessibility is reviewed as part of every significant release, using keyboard-only runs, screen-reader spot checks, and automated audits. This statement is updated when the picture changes. Related policies live in the Legal & Transparency hub.
