Neglect of Our Ward and Political Discrimination Against Residents

I am a resident of Ambala City and come from a small middle-class family. Like every responsible citizen, my family pays electricity bills, taxes, and follows the law. In return, we expect basic civic facilities and equal treatment from our elected representatives. Unfortunately, our experience has been very different.

During the previous term, our ward was represented by a Municipal Councillor (MC) from a different political party than the sitting MLA. Residents of our area strongly felt that because of this political difference, our ward was repeatedly ignored when it came to development and public services.

Our locality suffered from frequent and prolonged power cuts, often lasting 8–10 hours and sometimes even longer. At the same time, people living in other wards reported significantly better electricity supply. This created a perception among residents that our area was being treated unfairly.

The condition of our roads was equally disappointing. The main road in front of our homes remained damaged and poorly maintained for years. It was lower than the surrounding water level, causing rainwater to collect after every monsoon. In many cases, the water remained for weeks and sometimes even months, creating unhygienic conditions, increasing mosquito breeding, and exposing residents to various health risks.

Another major issue involves the misuse of residential areas for commercial activities. Several properties operate warehouses, and large trucks frequently occupy public roads for hours at a time. These vehicles block access, create traffic problems, and inconvenience local residents. When people request that the trucks be moved, they are often told to find another route, as if public roads are private property.

The most painful part is the feeling that ordinary citizens are being punished for political choices. Many residents believe that development should never depend on which party wins a ward or constituency. Public funds come from taxpayers, not political parties. Every citizen deserves the same quality of roads, sanitation, drainage, electricity, and public services regardless of whom they voted for.

I am not writing this to support or oppose any political party. I am writing as a citizen who wants accountability, fairness, and equal development. We do not ask for special treatment. We only ask for the basic services that every taxpayer deserves.

The people of our ward deserve proper roads, effective drainage systems, reliable electricity, better sanitation, and strict action against those who illegally occupy public spaces. Development should be based on the needs of citizens, not political calculations.

We hope that current and future representatives will work for every resident equally and ensure that no area is neglected because of political differences. A government's true success is measured not by speeches or promises, but by the quality of life it provides to ordinary people.
