I am writing to you as a deeply concerned resident of Chandigarh to bring to your immediate attention the stark, alarming disparity between the city’s well-planned main sectors and its rapidly deteriorating peripheral areas, villages, and rehabilitation colonies.

While Chandigarh proudly holds the title of "The City Beautiful" globally, the ground reality in areas like Burail, Hallomajra, Ram Darbar, Mauli Jagran, Raipur Khurd, Vikas Nagar, Behlana, Kajheri, Maloya, Dadu Majra, and Dhanas tells a completely different story. These pockets are currently battling a severe crisis of rising crime, crumbling infrastructure, and a total collapse of civic order.

I urge the Chandigarh Administration to address the following critical issues with the utmost urgency:

The Dangerous Rise of "Gangster Culture" & Youth Crime: There is a highly disturbing trend among the youth in these specific colonies who are romanticizing and glorifying crime, heavily influenced by toxic social media trends. This "wannabe gangster" mindset has translated into real-world terror, including frequent street fights, stabbings, snatchings, and open drug peddling. Law-abiding citizens, students, and women feel highly unsafe stepping out in these areas, especially after sunset.

Substandard Infrastructure vs. Main Sector Standards: The infrastructure in these areas is completely neglected and resembles slums. Why should residents of these colonies live with overflowing open drains, broken roads, massive garbage dumps, and erratic water/electricity supply while the main sectors enjoy world-class amenities? Citizens living here pay taxes and contribute heavily to the city's economy; they deserve the exact same level of smart infrastructure, wide roads, and clean public parks as any prime sector in Chandigarh.

Severe Lack of Civic Sense and Garbage Management: Due to extreme overcrowding and administrative oversight, waste management in these regions has completely collapsed. Open littering is rampant, public spaces are routinely defaced, and traffic rules are completely ignored, creating a chaotic and unlivable environment.

Our Demands for Immediate Administrative Action:

Security Overhaul: Setting up permanent police booths, increasing high-intensity PCR patrolling, and installing working CCTV networks in every lane of these sensitive areas to crush the drug and local gang menace.

Infrastructure Parity: Directing the Municipal Corporation to completely redesign and rebuild the sewage, drainage, and road networks of these colonies to bring them on par with the standard of Chandigarh's main sectors.

Youth Engagement & Civic Awareness: Setting up local sports complexes, skill-development centers, and conducting civic-sense drives to steer the youth away from criminal influences.

Chandigarh cannot truly be called "Beautiful" if a massive chunk of its population is left behind in unsafe, unhygienic, and lawless conditions. It is time the administration bridges this gap and treats these peripheral areas as an integral part of Chandigarh's urban planning.
