My infant child was admitted to a hospital where we were informed that the platelet count had dropped to 13,000/µL, a critically low level. Based on this report, we were told that the situation was life-threatening and urgent treatment, including PICU admission and platelet transfusion, was discussed. However, within the same day, a repeat blood test reported the platelet count as 3,82,000/µL, which was completely normal.
