I am deeply concerned by what I believe was excessive police action against peaceful youth protesters in Delhi. In my view, law enforcement should protect citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful protest, not suppress it through force. Even after the Education Minister’s resignation, I believe the response to public demands has remained inadequate and that efforts have been made to prevent citizens’ voices from being heard. As a citizen, I believe accountability must extend beyond one resignation. I therefore call for the resignation of the Home Minister, Amit Shah, because I believe political leadership must take responsibility for the actions of agencies under its authority and for restoring public trust. I urge an independent investigation, transparency regarding the use of force, and equal application of the rule of law so that peaceful dissent is respected and democracy is strengthened.
