Severe Traffic Jam leading to Air pollution, Fuel wastage & Time Consumption
Every day during peak hours (8:00–10:00 AM and 5:00–8:00 PM), commuters face severe traffic congestion along the stretch from Rahul Vihar → Bahrampur → Shani Mandir/Chhajarsi Driveway → Noida Sector 62 Roundabout. The primary reason appears to be inadequate traffic planning and the limited number of underpasses available for vehicles to make U-turns and change directions at major junctions.
As traffic accumulates near these bottlenecks, vehicle queues often extend for several kilometers, significantly increasing travel times for thousands of daily commuters. The prolonged idling of vehicles also contributes to higher fuel consumption, increased emissions, and worsening air pollution in the surrounding areas.
The situation becomes even more concerning during the monsoon season. Many underpasses along this corridor experience heavy waterlogging due to insufficient drainage infrastructure and runoff from the flyovers above. This not only slows traffic further but also creates safety risks for motorists and can potentially damage vehicles.
What makes this issue particularly critical is that this corridor serves as a vital transportation link connecting Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Lal Kuan, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. For many commuters, there are few practical alternative routes available. As a result, traffic disruptions on this stretch have a cascading impact on regional mobility.
Despite significant investments in highways, expressways, toll infrastructure, and vehicle taxation, commuters continue to lose valuable time in avoidable traffic bottlenecks. The purpose of modern road infrastructure is not merely to facilitate high-speed travel on expressways but also to ensure efficient access to and from them. Without adequate traffic management, sufficient underpasses, improved drainage systems, and better connectivity planning, the benefits of these infrastructure projects remain largely unrealized.
Immediate attention from the concerned authorities, including the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is required to address these persistent issues and provide long-term solutions that improve traffic flow, reduce pollution, and ensure safer, more reliable travel for the public.
