Lack of Retail Fuel Price Reduction Despite Higher Ethanol Content in Petrol
Ethanol blending has been promoted as a measure to reduce fuel imports and improve energy security. However, consumers have not experienced proportionate reductions in retail petrol prices despite increasing ethanol content in fuel.
The government should publicly disclose the pricing methodology for blended fuel and explain how the economic benefits of ethanol blending are being passed on to consumers. Greater transparency is needed to maintain public trust.
